March Madness Teams

Every year around the middle of March the Madness officially begins when 68 teams compete for the NCAA College Basketball Championship.
The betting interest is huge, exceeded only by the Super Bowl as casual fans and professional sports gamblers alike wager on which teams will advance in the Division 1 Men's basketball bracket.

The NCAA tournament bracket is filled during Selection Sunday, an event in itself when the bubble teams are eliminated, the final field of 68 March Madness Teams is determined, and the newest sports "science" of bracketology begins in earnest.

The five teams that have fared the best historically at the Big Dance and captured the most NCAA Tournament titles are:

UCLA with a staggering 11 championships, although most of them were in a cluster in the distant past.

Kentucky, who have won the premier College Basketball tournament 7 times.

Indiana with a very healthy 5 March Madness titles, and one so-so college hoops movie to their name as well (Hoosiers).

North Carolina with 5 Big Dance titles, and a recent winner with the
2009 title.

Duke, who have now won the tournament 4 times, including a memorable final win in 2010, but act like it belongs to them.

Special mention also goes to Florida who won back-to-back NCAA Tournament titles in 2006/07.

Be sure to check out our March Madness betting pages to get the latest market moves on the teams that the experts feel have a shot of making the Final Four, and possibly go all the way to be the next Tournament champion.

March Madness Teams Previews

Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State have a legitimate shot at winning the 2011 March Madness tourney. They will almost certainly receive a coveted #1 seed, and should be at the forefront of your bracket picks.

BYU Cougars

Lock up your wives, and yes BYU alums I am talking to more than one man here, because Brigham Young is riding into this March Madness tournament with plenty of firepower. This could well be the 2011 version of Butler, so Bracketology students need to pay attention to this team.

Texas Longhorns

Texas has a real shot in the 2011 March Madness tournament, and should start the Big Dance with a national top 10 ranking despite some upset losses to close out the regular season.

Purdue Boilermakers

Purdue are a very highly rated team in 2011. They have been underrated by many experts this year but don't ignore them in your March Madness bracket! A sexy Final Four pick by us.

Kentucky Wildcats

The Kentucky Wildcats will head into March Madness 2010 ranked as high as #2 in many national polls, and will be a popular choice to win it all.

Syracuse Orange

The Syracuse Orangemen have a decent team in 2011, and should make it to the Sweet Sixteen at the Big Dance, but no bets on them going any further.

Louisville Cardinals

Want a real rough gem to make it to the Elite Eight in the 2011 NCAA Tournament? Bust up numerous brackets by including Louisville. One of our patented College Basketball Power Rankings Sleeper Picks. That little "tm" symbol is forthcoming.

Clemson Tigers

The Clemson Tigers are ranked in the top 30 (right at the bottom of that list) by the coaches poll. They probably won't be a threat for the 2010 NCAA Tournament elite stages of the bracket.

Connecticut Huskies

UConn are a shadow of the 2009 team expected to win it all last year and a Final Four achiever. This year they have struggled to win at all and have a losing record in the Big East.

Utah Utes

The Utes were a decent team in 2009 and went to the NCAA Tournament but this year's team has fared very poorly, has a losing record, and more than likely won't be going anywhere.

Pittsburgh Panthers

Pitt are ranked as a top 20 team in most polls headed in to the 2011 March Madness tourney. They're arguably stronger than last year's squad and have a chance of going as far as the Elite Eight.

Butler Bulldogs

March Madness brackets always seem to hinge on that little-known #12 school that knocks out the #5 seed in the first round and then goes to cause havoc until losing with honor in the Sweet Sixteen. Butler is that type of program and this year the Bulldogs could be many experts' underdog of choice.

Florida Gators

The Florida Gators won the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and then repeated as champions in the 2007 Big Dance.

Stanford Cardinal

Stanford have disappointed with a losing record for the season. They are unlikely to make it to the Dance, and if they somehow manage to win the PAC 10 tournament and do get in they have no shot.

Georgetown Hoyas

Georgetown are a well-coached team led by John Thompson III and they are typically dangerous to discount during March Madness. But are they really going to throw brackets into disarray in 2010?

Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State are usually highly touted and are certainly well-coached by Tom Izzo. They are ranked number 11 in the AP poll and must have a good chance to get to the Elite Eight at least.

UCLA Bruins

The Bruins are the only team to win the NCAA Tournament 11 times, including seven times in a row from 1967-73, a record highly unlikely ever to be broken. But UCLA has not won March Madness since 1995 and this streak is not scheduled to end this year.

North Carolina Tar Heels

The UNC Tar Heels have been to the Final Four 18 times and won it all in 2009. And this year's team has a chance to continue the legacy, albeit it a small one (the chance not the legacy).

Duke Blue Devils

It's another typically strong season at Duke and the Blue Devils will be near the top of the March Madness betting boards in 2011 once again. The program has the fourth-most wins in the history of men's college basketball, and the most recognizable coach in the sport (Coach K).

Kansas Jayhawks

The Jayhawks won the 2008 Tourney and they have a solid chance of repeating the feat in the 2011 March Madness tournament. Find out why they definitely deserve a #1 seed in the bracket.

Memphis Tigers

The Memphis Tigers nearly won it all in 2008 denied only in a thrilling OT against eventual champs Kansas. The 09 team made it to the Sweet Sixteen, but disappointed. Less is expected in 2010, but there could be a surprise.
