That`s not meant to be a sarcastic title, although you`d never know it judging from my tournament poker results to date. There are many joys at the WSOP, and being an online poker affiliate certainly helps to attain them.
Let`s get the disastrous part of the blog out of the way, namely my 2006 WSOP results. The short version: Another No-limit tournament, another pre-lunch exit.
The bad beat version: I have a decent stack in front of me (4500 chips). Blinds are 50-100. There is a maniac in the big blind with 6000 chips. I am in the cut-off seat and get Ad-Qh. Action folds to me and I make it 300 (3x the big blind). The big blind is the only caller.
Flop comes Qd-Jd-4c.
Big blind checks. I bet 500 and he raises me to 1500. Now I really felt that he had nothing, so I decided to make a stand. I re-raised all in for another 2700.
He says the following, and I quote: "I am feeling the flush. I must call this." And so he called. If he went on to cash in this event maybe he can afford a few Enlgish as second-language lessons. Anyhoo, he flips over the 3d-6d - you know the one, it`s the kind of hand people at the WSOP play every day.
The turn is the 8d, and that kind of took the wind out of my sails. I still had outs as I held the Ad but instead of a fourth diamond all I saw on the river was the Ac.
So I got knocked out by 3-6 suited. So it goes here in Vegas.
The rest of my Monday, however, picked up considerably thanks to the boys from PokerShare.com. Not only are they entering a chimp in the Main Event, but they go the extra mile for their players and affiliates alike. We enjoyed an excellent evening out on the town even though it was a Monday and pretty quiet until it officially turned into Tuesday.
The online poker rooms have made a very good effort for their players at the 2006 WSOP. The lounges are pretty cool, especially Bodog Poker`s where I enjoyed a strong beverage and a cupcake or two this morning.
Tonight Bodog are throwing a WSOP party at Tao in the Venetian. Any Bodog party is usually worth blogging about. The Bodog girls and an open bar is a winning combination.
At least the parties can draw my attention away from my poker, which is nothing short of abysmal right now - the key is to stay away from crazy players early on, a point I write about, remind myself about, and yet still manage to ignore in the heat of the game. Foolish...
