This blog is about political corruption, hypocrisy, and ultimately a call to action for any Americans who believe in their country`s espoused values.
Bob Goodlatte is largely responsible for the anti-gambling legislation known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA. His reason for banning online gambling in America is that it is immoral. It has now emerged that this congressman received $40,000 in campaign contributions from the very powerful horse racing lobby in the USA. Congressman Goodlatte does not feel that online gambling on horse racing is immoral at all. He is all for that.
Now you don`t have to be smarter than a fifth grader, or even smarter than people who watch Are you smarter than a fifth grader? to work out what is going on here. Bob Goodlatte follows his master`s orders, and in this case the master is the horse racing lobby. If he cares to deny this allegation perhaps he could explain how it is that one form of online gambling is immoral and should be illegal while other forms of online gambling are not immoral and are perfectly legal?
The senator who snuck the UIGEA into the Safe Port Act was Bill Frist, who of course received big donations from land based Las Vegas casino groups. One of these groups, Harrahs, was up for sale at exactly the same time that this law was first passed. The result? Their valuation increased by more than $1 billion right afterwards.
Now please keep in mind that these are the contributions that are public knowledge. Who knows what private and personal "donations" have been made to Congressman Goodlatte, Senator Frist, and the others who strive to keep online gambling (that is to say non-US based online gambling) from corrupting Americans (that is to say Americans not already corrupted by online horse racing and lotteries)?
The time has surely come to stand up to this outrageous tyranny. Write to Congressman Goodlatte and ask him how he is able to sleep at night. I bet he sleeps like a baby, and the sad thing is he`s probably happy to bet on it as well :)
