January 12 - I`m not sure how Full Tilt Poker has brazenly managed to continue operating a US-facing online poker room, but I`m certainly not complaining! They now have the best cash game action on the planet and the overall experience is extremely impressive.
While the party was over for some poker companies (did anyone ever get tired of reading variations on that delightful pun? I still chuckle, NOT!) Full Tilt decided to stick around and pick up the millions of suddenly homeless USA poker players. This despite the fact that their owners live in the USA, appear on television advertising the room, and that they`re not even banning the dreaded dozen states that make online gambling a crime.
How does Full Tilt manage to do this while other sites shied away in cowering fear? Let it be understood that this is not the most vigilant or intelligent administration in the history of American government. If some dudes from Saudi Arabia (not Iraq by the way) can pilot commercial planes into the Pentagon and the Manhattan skyline chances are good that a few poker pros in LA can get away with owning a chunk of an online poker company that is licensed by a bunch of Native Canadians (or Canadian Indians depending on your PC preference).
The bottom line is that ring game action at this room is phenomenal. You can also actually play against the superstars who endorse the website. I was lucky enough to play in a $550 Sit N Go the other night with none other than Phil Gordon. He finished 9th and I finished 2nd. For those of you who now think that the entire reason for this blog was the previous sentence, you`re not far wrong.
The software developed and owned by an LA company that is closely connected to Howard Lederer is incredible, an homage to Poker Stars but with nicer features. The hand history functionality is superb. If there is a showdown and only one hand (the winning one) is revealed, you can dive into this baby immediately and access the mucked hands. You can also make sure that you are always seated in the middle of the table (from your POV) when you play.
They have good bonuses and a frequent player points store that kicks ass (especially Poker Stars` ass) - although how I will ever earn enough points to collect my Plasma screen remains a mystery (I am only a few hundred thousand points short, but it is still nice to know that I could qualify for it, just like I could win the WSOP Main Event some day). You should start playing there.
