| March 12 - On Tuesday, March 10, one of Britain's most important national hunt horseracing meetings, the Cheltenham Festival, kicked off at Cheltenham Racecourse in Cheltenham, England, not only attracting thousands of intrepid racing fans, but so far also delivering plenty of exhilarating racing action.
Day 1 of the four-day Cheltenham Festival had six races on the card, many of them yielding unexpected results. For instance, in race 1, the williamhill.com Supreme Novices' Hurdle over 2 miles and 110 yards, 12-1 Irish runner Go Native dazzled with a strong performance, giving himself a decent lead by the line.
In race 2, Forpadydeplasterer (8-1) impressed by winning the Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy over 2 miles, while as expected race favorite Wichita Lineman (5-1) delivered a convincing win in race 3, the William Hill Trophy over 3 miles 110 yards. Race 4, however, left the crowd open-mouthed.
In the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle over 2 miles 110 yards, the Nicky Henderson-trained long shot Punjabi (22-1) - who came third in this race last year - stuck to his guns to outrun Celestial Halo and race favorite Binocular to cross the line first by a neck, to the joy of punters canny enough to back him.
Race 5 saw Garde Champetre (7-2) gallop home first in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase over 3 miles 7 furlongs, while in race 6, and the last of the day, as expected, race favorite Quevega (2-1) held off the competition to run home first in the David Nicholson Mares Hurdle over 2 miles 4 furlongs.
As one of the major national hunt horseracing betting events of the year, the Cheltenham Festival's many races never fails to attract millions of pounds in wagers, wagers that are quickly and easily processed by Britain's many leading bookmakers, such as Ladbrokes, which has a host of lucrative bets on offer.
Ladbrokes offers a wide range of horseracing bets that punters are scrambling to take up. For example, this land and online betting firm is offering punters three special Cheltenham bets. The first allows punters to place bets from 10 to 100 GBP and take advantage of a free bet worth double their original bet.
The second is Ladbrokes 'Betting after the off' bet, where punters can watch the start of the race and then decide on which horses to wager. The third bet is where Ladbrokes will take any price at 3/1 or above on any Cheltenham race and, if a punter's selection wins, their wager will be matched as a free bet.
