2006 WSOP Results - $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. Final Table Set - 07-14-06

July 14 - They call the $10,000 No-Limit event the World Championship, but at this year's WSOP every true poker pro knew that the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. event was the ultimate tournament. The final table has been decided and it's a veritable poker hall of fame.

The leader going into the final level is David "Chip" Reese, whom many poker pros and expert commentators feel is the best overall poker player in the world. He is the king of huge-limit cash games, and renowned for his mixed game skills. He is often referred to as the Jack Nicklaus of poker. Looks like the rep is well deserved. He leads with 1.75 million chips.

Second is chips is Doyle Brunson. We think you'll agree that this is already one of the great World Series Of Poker final tables of all time. Brunson has an edge here because the last level is all no-limit hold'em, which is Reese's least favorite game.

So, who else is at the final table? Oh, just the "little" matter of the following legends of poker:

T J Cloutier, Jim Bechtel, Dewey Tomko, and did we mention that a youngster by the name of Phil Ivey is third in chips?!

Ivey is in prime position to win this tournament. He will then be known as the world's best poker player - a title that many think is his anyway. Reese and Brunson were the best ever, but is Ivey ready to take over? This is a huge opportunity to become a poker immortal.

Rounding out the final table are three other top poker pros: Andy Bloch (his fourth cash at the 2006 WSOP), David Singer (earned over $1 million in poker tournament winnings), and Patrik Antonius (tournament earnings of $1.7 million).

It's interesting to see the poker pros who didn't make the final table. It's a surprise to see that Barry Greenstein isn't there, and less of a suprise to note that Daniel Negreanu isn't there. Daniel plays in the biggest cash game in the world, but many feel that Ivey, Reese, and a couple of others are still far superior players.

It's no surprise to see that Phil Hellmuth didn't get too far, or Johnny Chan for that matter. They have a lot of WSOP bracelets between them, but they were never going to get too far in this event.

For the record Barry Greenstein finished a creditable 12th, Gavin Smith showed the poker world that he is a genuine rising star by finishing 11th, and Omaha expert Robert Williamson III finished in 10th place, earning a cool $205,000.
