February 9 - The 2008 March Madness battle to win the NCAA Tournament looks wide open this year with a number of schools in with a shout at this juncture. Can Florida defend their crown again and win the Big Dance for the third straight year? It appears unlikely and they are currently listed in the betting at odds of 100-1!
So if not the Gators then who? We've got the latest odds of all the major contenders as of today courtesy of the oddsmakers at Sportsbook, who have a futures betting market for the next NCAA Tournament winner:
Kansas are the early favorites at odds of 7/2, which in our opinion is completely the wrong price. They're certainly not that much better than the other top programs and no school should be that short in the betting at this stage.
UCLA are next in the betting at 9/2 followed by Memphis and North Carolina both at 6/1. The biggest value looks to be Duke, who could well be the best team in the country this year, and who are easu to back at 8/1.
No other team is quoted in single-digits. Next in the betting are Georgetown and Tennessee at 12/1.
If you have the bankroll we advise placing a wager on Duke now at 8s. $1250 invested wisely today could well turn into $10,000 by the end of this year's March Madness.
