March 26 - This season's NCAA Tournament has finally come down to the final sixteen, known colloquially as the Sweet 16, but there is nothing sweet about any of the teams as they represent the toughest, most physical and most ambitious in college basketball, and the best that March Madness betting has to offer the millions of fans who love to wager on the action.
As proof that the NCAA seeding process has been honed to a fine art, in this year's NCAA Tournament all four of the No. 1 seeds made it into the Sweet 16, as did all four No. 2 seeds, all four No.3 seeds and two of the No. 4 seeds. This means that there are only two teams nobody expected to make it this far.
They are of course the No. 5 seed Purdue who have been playing up a storm, and Arizona who, despite only making the Sweet 16 because the final at-large spot could not be left blank, do deserve their coveted spot. Overall this season's final 16 boasts some of the strongest college basketball teams seen in recent years.
This is great news for college basketball fans as the NCAA Tournament actions kicks off tonight with loads of basketball action on the cards. In fact, fans of the remaining 16 teams will undoubtedly be biting their nails and holding their breaths to see if their teams will make it or break it on their way to NCAA glory.
Ahead of their game tonight with Villanova, said Duke's coach Mike Krzyzewski, 'I'm a little surprised at how fresh I am, based on the last three years with the Olympic team. I'm about as fresh as I've ever been at the end of a year.' This is Duke's first shot at the Elite Eight since 2004, so the coach has to be on his toes.
Villanova's coach Jay Wright was also generous in his praise for the way Duke has progressed in this year's NCAA Tournament. 'I think Krzyzewski's move to put Scheyer at the point was genius. I think all of us, coaches and players, have great respect for them. We love how his team plays.'
