2011 Dubai World Cup Odds Change As Favorite Is Scratched - 03-22-11
March 22 - This looked like it was finally going to be trainer Mike de Kock's year to win the world's most valuable horse race, the Dubai World Cup. He was beaten on the line last year with rank outsider Lizard's Desire in the $10 million race, but had the goods for 2011 with his South African runner Bold Silvano. But sadly, Bold Silvano pulled up lame after a training gallop and has been withdrawn.
That has bolstered the chances of Twice Over, and he is now a short-priced favorite in the latest 2011 Dubai World Cup betting market. Here are the current odds with the race set for Saturday, March 26:
Twice Over 9/4
Cape Blanco 4/1
Buena Vista 8/1
Golden Sword 8/1
Gio Ponti 10/1
Poets Voice 10/1
Gitano Hernando 12/1
Victoire Pisa 12/1
Musir 16/1
Fly Down 25/1
Prince Bishop 25/1
Transcend 25/1
Monterosso 33/1
Transcend 33/1
Richards Kid 40/1
It is of historic significance that Coolmore will be sending a representative runner to this year's World Cup in Cape Blanco, as they tend to boycott the event due to their strained relationship with Godolphin. Cape Blanco has solid Classic form and will be a big danger to Twice Over. Golden Sword and Musir represent the de Kock yard, and the former is a lively each-way chance.
American challengers include Gio Ponti, Gitano Hernando, and Fly Down in a truly international affair.
