January 18 - Online casino and poker giant 888.com has announced its sponsorship of legendary Australian cricket player Shane Warne, who is apparently about to embark on a professional poker career.

Warne will represent 888 and Pacific Poker at various major poker events, including the World Series Of Poker, which was won by fellow Australian and Victorian Joe Hachem in 2005.

Accustomed to a lot of travel in his cricket playing days, Wane is likely to visit the UK, New Zealand and United States ion the coming months.

Warne has had his fair share of strife over the years. Most recently he was famously dumped by a sponsor who promoted quit smoking aids when he was spotted having a fag. You can't have your fag and smoke it mate.

His relationship with his ex wife went something like "split up, get together again, get caught with dirty phone messages, split up, reconcile, get caught in bed with two prostitutes, split up, reconcile, more dirty phone message...." You get the picture.

Be that as it way, we know Warnie for his cricket playing skills, his bad boy image and his unmatched mobile phone text messaging skills. It sill be interesting to see if he can make a run of it at the poker tables. He reckons it requires discipline and he is used to that. I guess time will tell. Here's a challenge to 888.com.
