April 24 - Since the online exchange operator, Betfair started out a
little more than eight years ago, the company has grown from strength to
strength. In 2003, Betfair boasted around 100,000 users, 92% of which was
made up of players from the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Fast forward to 2008, and Betfair now has a customer base nearing one million
users, 40% of which live outside the borders of the United Kingdom.
It comes as no surprise then that one of the greatest honors that can be
bestowed on a UK company was given to Betfair, after it was announced yesterday
that the company had received the Queen's Award for Enterprise.
This is the second time in the company's history that it has won the Queen's
Award. In 2003, Betfair won the award in the Innovation category which
recognizes companies that have become successful using innovative and
cutting-edge products.
This Queen's Award was given to Betfair in the International Trade category
as a salute to the company's remarkable achievements in overseas earnings.
The Chief Executive of Betfair, David Yu, was naturally thrilled with the
news. "Upon winning our first award in 2003," he said, "our chairman and
co-founder Edward Wray said that the company was looking forward to taking the
great British innovation onto the global stage. Five years on, this award for
International Trade is recognition of the strides we've made towards achieving
that aim."

customers and a determination to work in partnership with international
governments and regulators. Those qualities are being recognized throughout the
world and we now have operational bases in Australia and Malta to support over
one million registered customers."
