April 10 - Based on its latest research figures, Poker Scout reports that the
Isle of Man-based
PokerStars.com,
an independent online poker site, has a huge lead over its rivals as the world's
largest online poker room.

Poker Stars (owned Rational Enterprises) currently has over 14,000 cash players
during peak hours and this goes as high as over 22,000 concurrent cash players
at peak hours. The seven day cash player moving average is over 15400.
In the second place is the now Ireland based
FullTiltPoker.com,
who at the time of writing had over 8200 cash players active which has recently
peaked at 9,732 concurrent players and a has a weekly average of more than 7,000.
A relatively new mover into third spot is the Playtech powered iPoker
network, which is making good headway consider its relatively late entry into
the market. Next up is
PartyPoker.com in fourth.
Party is still going pretty strong considering it doesn't take US players. Fifth is the Ongame Network
and sixth is the new kid on the block and fast moving
Everest Poker.
The Swedish
Government's monopoly Svenske Spel in seventh, with Boss Media's International Poker
Network in eighth place, just ahead of the troubled
UltimateBet.com. CakePoker.com
takes the cake in tenth place.
Other notables include
Absolute Poker, who are still suffering from the recent insider cheating
scandal, who are eleventh (having been in the top 5). Bodog Life Poker is in
position 12 with the
Microgaming Poker Network which is still feeling the effects
of its insider cheating scandal, is in eleventh place followed by
Bodog Life
Poker in twelfth. 888's
PacificPoker.com
is in 14th place.
Poker Scout also reports that Texas Hold'em and its various variation still
hold over 90% of the poker player market with the next most popular games being
Omaha at around 5%.
