July 13 - The few months before a new NFL Season kicks off are full of speculation, predictions and trends, and this year is no different, as the 32 NFL teams continue to 'buff and polish' themselves, the four AFC West teams included.
For NFL betting fans, there should be one team in the AFC West division that stands out amongst the others - the San Diego Chargers, which is being widely touted as one of the top 5 teams this season that could reach the Super Bowl.
That's big. While many NFL teams will be looking at improving their ATS on last season, other teams will be focused on making it all the way to the playoffs and hopefully the Super Bowl, and the San Diego Chargers should be one of them.
To help them negotiate the season, is the Chargers' starting quarterback Philip Rivers, who has an arm like a piston and the aim and accuracy to match. Plus, in the off-season, the Chargers gained more in acquisitions than players they lost.
For instance, while San Diego will miss nose tackle Jamal Williams, running back LaDainian Tomlinson and cornerback Antonio Cromartie will be replaced nicely with cornerback Antoine Cason and drafted running back Ryan Mathews.
They'll be complemented by new defensive tackle Cam Thomas (North Carolina), left tackle Tra Thomas (Jacksonville), linebacker Donald Butler (Washington), receiver Josh Reed (Buffalo) and cornerback Donald Strickland (Jets).
A player that should make an impact on the Chargers defense this season is linebacker Shawne Merriman, whose injury woes are hopefully a thing of the past, while cornerback Quentin Jammer is expected to carry his weight this season.
