| May 18 - As we enter the final week of betting for American Idol Season 8, the pressure is on to see who will finally take home the crown on May 20th.
This week saw a major upset for fans and betting groups alike, after the underdog of the competition, Kris Allen, came out tops in the second last leg of the competition and beat Danny Gokey to make it to the finale of the show.
Since the beginning of the countdown to the last leg, judge Paula Abdul has predicted that the final of American Idol Season 8 would be between the widower from Milwaukee, and the favorite-by-far, Adam Lambert.
Online betting sites were offering odds on this duo, with not many giving Allen a chance of pulling through. Odds for Allen to win the competition were long, sitting on 5/1, while Gokey had better odds of 4/1.
But, as the world of online betting goes, there were surprises along the way, and Gokey was sent home at the last moment.
A staggering 88 million voted on the top three of the competition, yet not enough votes were given to Gokey, who had at one point enjoyed odds of winning the competition.
In the meantime, online betting sites are gearing up for the deluge of bets they expect to receive as the final days of the competition come to a head.
By examining the odds at these sites, it is safe to say that the charismatic and hugely talented Adam Lambert is due to take the title, with odds at -250. This means that to win $1, you'd need to wager $2.50.
Bets on Kris Allen, on the other hand, would pay out $2 on every $1 wager should he happen to win.
