December 27 - The online poker world hardly needs another controversy
but it has been dealt another courtesy again of Ultimatebet.com Poker. Poker
Forums have been abuzz with a rumor that
poker ace Phil Hellmuth was awarded a $5,599 pot, even though he mucked his
hand.
Hellmuth, otherwise known as the Poker Brat, was locked in battle with a
players called "Doubleballer." Hellmuth won the hand that he should have
lost, and his opponent lodged a complaint with the poker room. In stark contrast
to their initial denial in the cheating scandal earlier this year,
UltimateBet.com officials acknowledged the error and said they would launch an immediate and thorough investigation.
UltimateBet.com and Absolute Poker run on the newly launched Cereus software
network and the error is currently believe to be a software glitch but that has
not been confirmed yet.
Paul Leggett, the COO of Absolute and UltimateBet owner Tokwiro Enterprises,
issues a statement: "Earlier today we learned about a poker hand where our
system paid out the losing player instead of the correct winning hand. We are
investigating this software malfunction as our absolute top priority. This is
the first incident of this kind we have encountered." He said that they problem
is being traced.
The latest rumor is that UltimateBet plan to credit the account of "Doubleballer"
with half the pot value of $2300.
This latest disaster casts another shadow of doubt over the integrity of the
software used by UltimateBet and Absolute Poker, called Cereus.
