December 28 - Despite the fact that two of the top teams in the English
Premier League - Arsenal FC and Manchester United FC - have battled
with their form in recent months, both delivered convincing victories on the
weekend to bring them ever closer to seemingly stalled leader, Chelsea FC.

Famous for frowning, Arsenal manager gave his weary frown lines a well-deserved
rest on Sunday when his team dispatched Aston Villa FC by a convincing 3-0. In
fact, there were even rumours after the game - played at Arsenal's Emirates
Stadium - that the Frenchman squeezed out a smile or two.
The Gunners - who are currently sitting third in the English Premier League
with 38 points - started to dominate Aston Villa - who are currently lying
fourth with 35 points - in the second half thanks to a superb goal by Arsenal
captain, Cesc Fabregas, in the 65th minute, just 8 minutes after coming on.
Fabregas has been plagued by a hamstring injury, but was fit enough to help out
his team in the second half. He opened the Arsenal score line by curving a free
kick beyond the reach of Aston Villa goalkeeper, Brad Friedel. Then 16 minutes
later, he put another on into the back of the Aston Villa net.
And the rest, as they say, is history. Unfortunately after his second goal,
Fabregas was taken off after his injured hamstring was clearly playing up which
may not bode well for Arsenal in upcoming games. But another team that redeemed
itself was Manchester United, who dispatched Hull City 3-0.
Currently second from the bottom of the league, Hull City should have proved no
match for Manchester United and to the relief of the team, manager Sir Alex
Ferguson and fans alike, they weren't. You may recall how last week Man Utd were
beaten 3-0 by middle-of the league Fulham FC.
And even though Hull City has only earned 17 points this season and has been
fighting off relegation, it was important for Manchester United to regain some
confidence with a convincing win, which it did, putting the side within two
points of Chelsea in the league standings with 40 points.
