January 31 - This weekend the English Premier League took a backseat to the FA Cup, however fans can look forward to league games continuing tomorrow (Tuesday, February 1) and Wednesday, including Arsenal versus Everton in London.
On Tuesday night the Gunners will host the Toffees at Emirates Stadium, where the home team is expected to win because they are second in the English Premier League standings, and because they defeated Huddersfield on Sunday night in the FA Cup.
However, there was a price to pay for Sunday night's victory in the form of a hamstring injury that saw the Gunners' top-rated attacking midfielder Samir Nasri being stretchered off the pitch, which will certainly preclude him from tomorrow night's match.
The match also yielded a red card for Arsenal center back Sebastien Squillaci, who will have to warm the bench for the next few games. But injuries and suspensions aside, Arsenal are still undefeated in the league since losing to Man United in December.
As such, their confidence should be sky high, and head coach Arsene Wenger will ensure that the team that faces Everton can do the job and do it well. Meanwhile, Everton head coach David Moyes will no doubt be telling his players to play their hearts out.
Currently lying 14th in the English Premier League standings, Everton have had a poor to average season, and with the clock ticking, are running out of games to turn their season around, which is exactly why they'll pull out all the stops on Tuesday.
In their FA Cup match on the weekend against Chelsea, the Toffees almost got away with a well-deserved 1-0 victory, until a late goal from the the Blues saw the match tied at 1-1, which means they must endure a rematch in February at Stamford Bridge.
However, a draw is infinitely better than a loss, which should give Everton some confidence ahead of tomorrow's game. Plus, it won't be lost on Everton fans that the club has an uncanny ability to deliver their best performances against the better sides.
What this means is that fans can expect a frenzied and hard-fought showdown tomorrow night, and one which could yield a surprising result.
