July 20 - eBay, the online auction giant, will make a
move into the skill based online gambling market through a range of branded
skill games from Fun Technologies, the Canadian games software developer..
SkillJam, the skill based gaming arm of Fun, will develop
a series of co-branded games that will be launched in a tournament format by
October 2005.
This move is the first for eBay into the online gaming market. It is however
unlikely to move into gambling sectors, with Paypal not being available to make
payments into online casinos, sports gambling sites and poker rooms.
This move adds weight to the views of many industry observers that skill games
will be the next big thing.
Fun Technologies has major deals with the likes of MSN and Yahoo.
What could be of huge assistance is the fact that eBay's
147m customers are comfortable to transact online.
Fun is also reported to be moving closer to a deal with a major US cable
operator for its interactive TV based games platform.
