in the Boston Globe, outlining why he has gained status as a "cult hero" among
online casino and poker players.

According to the article, support for Frank is on the rise as he continues to
champion their cause on Capitol Hill to legalize online gambling and remove the
controversial Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
Reports say that over 7% of contributions made to Frank's political campaign
funds since January 2007 were from poker interests - a sum estimated at around
$48,000.
Dan Cypra from PokerSourceOnline.com called Frank a "deity", while one poster
on Two Plus Two wrote: "God Bless Barney Frank".
The Boston Globe explains how a liberal, gay, Jewish democrat has managed to
garner support from across the board for his cause, even getting die-hard
Republicans to donate to his political campaigning.
John Pappas, who serves as the executive director for the Poker Players
Alliance and - as a Republican - voted twice for George W. Bush, said: "I've
become so entrenched in supporting a cause advanced by Barney Frank. I never
thought I'd see the day."
Another conservative Republican, ex-Senator Alfonse D'Amato, who is also a
leader of the Poker Players Alliance, said of Frank: "He's a powerful,
well-respected member of the Congress. That's important. He has been able to get
members to look at this issue. No one has been able to do that."
Barney Frank says that he bases his anti-UIGEA beliefs on the extent of how
much the government should be allowed to intervene in our personal lives.
Although he himself is not a gambler, his mantra has always been: "If it affects
me, mind your own business. If it affects others, let the government get
involved."
