Which is why we have decided to out together what we like to call Baseball Betting 101, a beginners guide to wagering and winning on baseball. The first thing you have to do is differentiate between American football and basketball betting.

In these two sports, 'spread betting' is the norm, i.e. when you bet against the spread (ATS), which is a handicap bet where one team gives points (a head start) to the other team. However, in baseball, 'moneyline betting' is the norm, i.e when you bet on who you think will win the game based on whether they're the favourite or the underdog.

But while on the surface baseball betting seems much simpler than football or basketball betting, it can actually be trickier. The reason is that baseball betting beginners are often tempted to bet on the overwhelming favourites, with surprising results.

For example, many new baseball betting fans are unaware that if a big -300 favourite loses, they have to win their next three bets to break even. And it's no secret that even favourites have to lose sometime, which is why baseball betting so exciting.

The trick is to follow the teams closely enough until you can spot 'weaknesses' that could turn a favourite into a bankable loser. At that point you can lay a bet on the underdog to win. While not foolproof, this is one way to make baseball betting pay.
