There's little doubt that of all the NFL games scheduled for the coming
weekend, the game between the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints should
attract a huge number of viewers and NFL betting fans, not least because these
two NFL franchises haven't faced off since 2008, when the Bears prevailed as the
-3 point home favorites, beating the Saints 27-24.
But a lot can change in three years, and this time around hosts the Saints
are the -6.5 point favorites in terms of the Bears Saints betting action,
despite the fact they lost 34-42 to defending Super Bowl champions the Green Bay
Packers on Thursday last week, and the Bears kicked off the season with a
deserving 30-12 victory against the Atlanta Falcons.
Bears posted 377 yards against Falcons
In that game, the Bears - who started the game as the +1 point underdogs -
posted 377 offensive yards against the Falcons defense, with 88 yards coming
from the running game. En route to their first win of the season, Chicago
overcame five sacks, turned the ball over once and snatched three away from the
Falcons. QB Jay Cutler completed 22 out of 32 passes, and passed for 312 yards
with two TDs a pick. So, still brimming with confidence after starting the
season with a winning record, the Bears could be a handful come Sunday. That
said, NFL oddsmakers still favor the Saints, even though they were felled by the
mighty Green Bay Packers last week. That said, they weren't beaten by many
points, and considering their rivals were the defending Super Bowl champs, they
didn't do too badly under the circumstances.
In that game, the Saints traveled to play the Packers as the +4 ½ point
underdogs. The points flew as the total rocketed to over 47.5 points. And from
the get go it was apparent that the Saints were comfortable moving the ball
against Green Bay's defense, as they racked up 476 yards and 81 yards on the
ground from 21 carries. However, New Orleans struggled in the red zone, managing
just one TD from five tries. But QB Drew Brees still completed 32 out of 49
passes for 419 yards and three touchdowns.
Saints QB Brees should rack up points
So as the Chicago Bears prepare to face the New Orleans Saints, the big betting
question is which team will prevail? There's no reason why Saints quarterback
Brees won't continue to rack up the points come Sunday the way he did against
the Packers, especially taking into account Chicago's arguably weaker pass
defense. Our Free Pick: The New Orleans Saints -6.5
