Belmont Betting Could Be A One Horse Race - 06-02-07
June 02 - The Belmont Stakes for 2007 lost a lot of its lustre with the news that Street Sense will not run in the race. The odds are good that Curlin will now be a heavy favorite in the Belmont betting when the morning line is posted.

The sensational finish to the Preakness Stakes suggested that USA horse racing would once again have a thrilling classic rivalry between two brilliant three-year-olds.
In the great tradition of Easy Goer and Sunday Silence or Affirmed and Alydar the thought was that Curlin and Street Sense would duke it out in all three legs of the 2007 Triple Crown. But the connections of Street Sense have backed away from that contest.
This leaves the 2007 Belmont Stakes at the mercy of Curlin, who is clearly still improving and would have beaten Street Sense in any case if only because the distance and track would seem to suit his style of racing.
The Belmont is run over the true Derby distance of 12 furlongs, as opposed to the Kentucky 'Derby', which isn't really a derby at all because it is run over only 10 furlongs. The course features a very long run in, and closers in this race tend to fare very well as a result.
There are a couple of decent closers expected to run in the Belmont Stakes, most notably Imawildandcrazyguy (4th in the Kentucky Derby), Tiago (7th in the Kentucky Derby), and Sightseeing (winner of the Peter Pan Stakes last time out). They could all be dangerous on their day, but have many lengths to find on Curlin.
