June 06 - The Belmont Stakes for 2007 will feature a heavy betting favorite in Curlin but the latest news for this horserace is that the nation's top three-year-old filly, Rags To Riches, will take on the boys - and this is going to alter the odds dramatically.

The biggest news surrounding the Belmont prior to this latest development was that Street Sense, the winner of the Kentucky Derby and narrowest of losers in the Preakness, was bowing out and would not face Curlin in the third leg of the Triple Crown.
There have been several defections from the race (Chelokee, Street Sense, Sightseeing, and Circular Quay) and it now seems that only 7 horses will face the starter on Saturday.
The inclusion of Rags To Riches has led to a big shake up in the Belmont. Patrick Biancone decided not to run Times Squared in the race once he found out that Pletcher's filly would be in the race.
Garret Gomez, who usually rides for Pletcher, tried to get out of his contract to ride Hard Spun (second in the Derby and third in the Preakness), but Hard Spun's trainer Larry Jones said no way. Mario Pino was criticized openly for his ride in the Preakness and then replaced by Gomez. Jones was not about to let Gomez slip away.
Meanwhile John Velazquez, who was supposed to ride Slew's Tizzy did manage to wriggle out of that appointment and he will now take the ride on Rags To Riches, who will more than likely be the second choice in the betting.
She'll have to be brilliant to beat Curlin, however, and we also give a longshot chance to Imawildandcrazyguy (ridden by Mark Guidry) who should appreciate the extra distance following his decent 4th in the Kentucky Derby.
