October 15 - Betfair has signed up its two millionth paying customer but what
makes this feat even more amazing is that it took only 20 months since the first
million. Betfair has been in business for eight years.
The UK based betting exchange announced that a 59-year-old civil servant from Linkoping in Sweden, Bo Ohrman,
was the player doing the honors, entering Betfair's history books forever. He
made a small wager on John McCain becoming the next President of the
United States, followed by a bet on whether Wall Street would go up or down..
Bo won himself a
VIP weekend in London for himself and a guest for his troubles.

"You have to back yourself in life and when my brother showed me the site I
could see instantly that it gave me a wide range of choices and I could pick my
own odds," said Ohrman.
"It's certainly more fun betting on Betfair than it is betting on the stock
market at the moment."
Betfair processes over five million transactions a
day. To put this in peespective, it is more than than all of Europe's stock exchanges combined.
What is even more staggerign is that 99.9
percent of these transactions are successfully completed in less than one
second. Their web servers have to cope with more than 4.7
billion page impressions each week. Betfair won its second Queen's Award for
Enterprise this year.
"In a year when we won a Queen's Award for International Trade, it is fitting
that Betfair's two millionth account comes from outside the UK," said David Yu,
Chief Executive Officer for Betfair.
"Our international customers are already an essential part of our business
and they are growing larger in number every day. So, congratulations to Mr
Ohrman, he's joined the world's biggest online betting community."
