December 2 - On the weekend the English Premier League was a hive of activity as some teams were eager to climb up the rankings while others tried desperately to hang on to rankings. One such team, Arsenal was unsuccessful as they went down to current League frontrunners, Chelsea 3-0.
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger surpassed himself yet again on Sunday, when he displayed a range of scowls and frowns never before seen as his team huffed and puffed, but ultimately failed to rate against an airtight Chelsea. In fact, we believe the Frenchman grew even more frown lines.
However one man who had an upside down frown after the game was Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti. And why wouldn't he considering that Chelsea is still in the number 1 spot in the English Premier League, but now leads by 36 points to Manchester United's 31 points, who is in second.
But there is another reason why bacon-loving Ancelotti is beaming all the way to his bosses - his players love him and are not afraid to say so. Take for instance Chelsea star Didier Drogba. After Saturday's game the striker heaped more sweetness on his manager than there is sugar in Coke.
'Ancelotti is the best coach in the world,' he said. 'He arrived at a new place with players he didn't know and a staff that wasn't his own, but he settled in quickly. I love the way he manages the team, the calmness he can convey to us. We work a lot under him, but with a smile on our faces.'
Now when was the last time someone in your team said that about you Arsene? Moving on to some of the other games on the weekend, another one that stood out was Wigan Athletic's surprise 1-0 win over Sunderland, especially considering Wigan's 9-1 drubbing by Tottenham last week.
Perhaps offering to refund fans that trekked to watch them lose 9-1 last week sparked a joint epiphany amongst Wigan's players - namely not to lose anymore and by doing so keeping guilt at bay and their fat bank balances intact. Wigan is currently 14th in the league while Sunderland is 8th.
