Bodog Life Loses Federal Court Appeal - 10-26-08

October 26 - Bodog this week its appeal case against a Nevada ruling in favor of  a company called 1st Technology, who claimed that Bodog was infringing on one of their patents. The court ruled the seizure of the Bodog.com and Bodog.net domain names and ordered fines of $46,597,849 in fines be paid by Bodog.

Bodog responded by rebranding itself as Bodog Life and appealed the ruling, arguing that no legal notice was served and not being An American company, the patents did not apply to them.

Unfortunately for Bodog, the Washington Court of Appeals rejected their appeal, ordering the Bodog Entertainment Group to pay the original fine plus interest, which brings the total amount owing to over $50 million.

Scott Lewis, the Chief Executive Officer for 1st Technology, commented: "We cannot be more pleased. Bodog has consistently tried to circumvent the United States justice system and disregarded the legitimacy of our claims against it. We now have the certainty we need to accelerate our seizure of any and all global assets to satisfy the judgment and bring fairness and respect back to Bodog's commercial dealings."

The news can't be good for Bodog, who have endured several setbacks since the departure of their charismatic CEO, Calvin Ayre. Bodog was sold to Morris Mohawk. They also have $24 million in funds seized earlier this year and poker players report cases of bounced check and slow pay.

Bodog was once the darling of the industry and set the bar high for its competitors. That has all changed if once considers the lack of big promotions they were once known for as well as an evident drop in online poker traffic.

However, Bodog is still one of the best sportsbooks serving American players and according to sources the sports betting and online casino business are healthy.

We still believe Bodog to be a top-class sportsbook for North American players but we will continue to monitor the situation. Our visitors can play at Bodog Life with the backing of our $1000 deposit guarantee. Should Bodog not pay out winnings, we will step in and refund your deposits.
