2010 Season
If the Buffalo Bills were considered 'wishy washy' and lackluster
in the 2009/10 NFL season, they were doubly so last season, after
winning just four games, guaranteeing themselves last place
(again) in the AFC East Division. Even die-hard Buffalo Bills fans
are despairing that the Bills seemed to have 'capsized', and are
incapable of righting themselves. That said, head coach Perry Fewell was fired at the end of last
season and replaced with Chan Gailey, who may be just the
'skipper' the team needs.
2011 Off Season
Despite the Buffalo Bills' poor performance last season, many NFL
experts believe the team boasts pockets of real talent which need
to be recognized and utilized. And there is hope that
newly-installed coach Gailey is just the man to bring this
untapped talent to the fore. Although most aspects of Buffalo's
game need attention, Gailey focused more on bolstering the team's
defense than offense in the 2011 NFL Draft, by signing the likes
of talented DT Marcell Dareus, DB Aaron Williams, LB Kevin
Sheppard and others. These 'young guns', together with veteran
linebackers Nick Barnett and Shaun Merriman, could finally give
the Bulls the kind of defense they need to be competitive.
2011 Preview
If the Buffalo Bills have one advantage to finishing last season
so close to the bottom of the NFL barrel, it's that they have more
room to move up then down. Looking at the Bills' offensive lineup,
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will retain his starting status because his
stats were not too bad last season (3000 passing yards + a 57.8
percent completion rate). However, if he drops the ball, so to
speak, he'll likely be replaced by former Miami Dolphin, Tyler
Thigpen. Other players expected to shine offensively include RB
Fred Jackson, who led the team with 927 rushing yards last season,
WR Steve Johnson, who scored 10 TDs and caught a none-too-shabby
82 passes for 1,073 yards. Defensively, it's up to coach Gailey to
reconstruct a whole new and cohesive unit, amalgamating both his
newly acquired acquisitions and veterans alike. But first, he'll
have one heck of a job eradicating the stench of losing from the
Bills' overall psyche.
2011 Prediction
Even though the owners of the Buffalo Bills have great faith in
new coach Chan Gailey to help turn
the fortunes of the team around, the reality is that this
might be like trying to turn an oil tanker around on a dime, i.e.
impossible. While at worst Gailey may be able to help the Buffalo
Bills improve on their poor 4-12 record from last season, it may
well take a few seasons before this AFC East franchise shrugs off
what can only be described as a 'dismal decade.'
**Our Pick
For close to 10 years fans of the Buffalo Bills have waited for
the team to experience their 'breakout season,' but to no avail.
After virtually hitting rock bottom last season, there is no real
way for the Bills to go other than up, especially with a new
seemingly motivated head coach. Which is why we predict the
Buffalo Bills will finish the 2011/12 NFL season on an improved
6-10, but in all likelihood still last in the AFC East division.
