Caribbean Online Gambling Jurisdictions Fight US at WTO
September 12 - Caribbean-based online gambling jurisdictions feel they are being
targeted by the US, it has emerged at the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Many of the jurisdictions claim that the ban on online gambling by the United
States is impacting negatively on their economies.
One such jurisdiction, Antigua, thinks it is being specifically being targeted
by the US as part of an 'anti-online gambling' campaign.
There is a feeling of anger amongst many Caribbean gambling nations at the WTO
regarding the decision by the United States to relax the ban on online
horse-race betting, but continue enforcing a ban on online casinos and gambling.
Antigua representatives are seeking an explanation as to how the United States
government can allow one form of online gambling but disallow another.
In response, the WTO has requested the US to comprehensively define its online
gambling policies by April 2006. In the mean time, the debate continues with
neither side willing to budge an inch.
