Cheated Online Poker Players To Get $22 Million - 09-10-09
September 10 - Those of you who play online poker might remember the devastating scandal that nearly destroyed Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker a while back. Turns out that players were cheated out of millions of dollars in high stakes cash games as well as big MTT events.

The ringleader behind the cheating was a former WSOP Main Event champion, Russ Hamilton, who nearly ruined the reputation of the entire online poker industry. Now word comes from the slack Kahnawake Gaming Commission that players will be compensated to the tune of $22 million! One can only imagine what was stolen from them.
We won't go into the incestuous relationship between the commission and the owner of the online poker rooms that were embroiled in this scandal. Instead we'll be charitable and say that eventually, after the cheating was only acknowledged thanks to a grass-roots protest on blogs and forums, and that the cheating was only discovered in the first place by players and not by any "security" presence at the online rooms, the commission and Ultimate Bet are doing the right thing.
We still wouldn't play there for a lot of money, even if Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth are still shilling for the site. The good news is that the Kahnawake Gaming Commission assures us that super-users can no longer see your hole cards. What a relief that is.
