February 8 - This weekend saw loads action in the English Premier League,
England's top professional football tier, where just 20 clubs continue to battle
it out to finish as high in the League standings as possible. And for
frontrunners, Chelsea and Man United, solid wins kept them safe at the top.

Not so lucky were Arsenal, who despite their coveted third place in this
season's English Premier League with 49 points, are falling further behind No. 1
side Chelsea (58 points) and No. 2 side Manchester United (56 points) with a
series of losses, their latest against Chelsea on Sunday by 0-2.
The great thing about Arsenal FC is its French manager, Arsene Wenger.
Why? Because he is consistent. Watch him watching his players when they are in
the middle of a slump - like now - and you'll notice that his rigidly folded
arms, stoney stare and never quavering frown doesn't move an inch.
You see, Wenger is a master at letting his players know when he is unhappy, and
boy was he ever unhappy on Saturday. And yet who can blame him as his team
displayed a defence so poor that Chelsea, by far best team in the League right
now, got close enough to find the back of the Arsenal net.
Add to that Arsenal's 'gung-ho' approach to attacking, and you are left with a
North London team that has pretty much sealed its fate this season. In the last
two weeks the Gunners have been beaten by Man United and Chelsea, proving that
they are no higher in the League than they deserve to be.
And speaking of Manchester United, they beat bottom-of-the-leaguers Portsmouth
by a whopping 5-0. Probably no surprise when you consider that Manchester United
probably spends more money each year on chewing gum for manager Sir Alex
Ferguson than Portsmouth does on new players.
The third most notable match of the weekend was between Stoke City and Blackburn
Rovers, two teams that have been pretty much neck and neck for most of the
English Premier League this season. But on Saturday it was Stoke City who dusted
off their A-game, dispatching the Rovers 3-0.
The match was unfortunately marred when a 30-year-old Rovers fan sustained a
head injury during half-time, and later died in hospital as a result. Police are
reportedly still investigating the matter.
