Chip Reese Wins HORSE Event At 2006 WSOP - 07-15-06

July 15 - The poker pros wanted it - a $50,000 buy-in mixed game event at the 2006 World Series Of Poker with huge starting chip stacks and slow increases of blinds. They said it would determine who is truly the best poker player in the world. This morning they got the answer that most of them already knew...

David "Chip" Reese has just won the 2006 H.O.R.S.E. tournament, capturing the WSOP bracelet, $1,716,000 in cash, and the unofficial title of the world's top poker player.

The final table was the best we have ever seen at a WSOP event. Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson, TJ Cloutier, Phil Ivey, Andy Bloch, David Singer, Jim Bechtel, and Patrik Antonius.

The heads-up confrontation was the longest in World Series history. Andy Bloch, who dismantled the final table one by one went up against Reese at 02:13 in the morning. At 09:23, more than seven hours later it was finally over with Bloch finishing a brilliant, and suprising second. He earned over $1 million, but beyond that he also won the respect of everyone who matters in poker.

Phil Ivey finished third, Jim Bechtel (a former World Series Main Event winner) finished fourth, TJ Cloutier was fifth, and Doyle Brunson was eighth.

The majority of poker pros considered Reese the greatest all-round poker player, but some thought that Phil Ivey had surpassed the poker legend and could now claim the title. Chip Reese showed one and all that he is still the king, with an imperious display here at the 2006 WSOP.

You can still qualify for the 2006 WSOP Main Event this weekend at online poker rooms like Poker.com and Sunpoker.com!
