Last Season
The Dallas Cowboys played like stars in the 2007 NFL season, which is
why their fans were so disappointed and let down when the top-rated
Texas team could not repeat their high level of play in the 2008 NFL
Season. Throughout the season the Cowboys were plagued by problems off
the field, and in the last weeks even hit rock bottom. They lost 3 out
of their last 4 games, including a crucial game against the Philadelphia
Eagles where a win would have kept their playoffs hopes alive. But the
Cowboys lost 44-6, ending the season on 9-7. Nuff said.
Off Season
Given the Dallas Cowboys fall from grace last season, the team was
eager to get back on track during the off-season. So turning to the 2009
NFL Draft, the Cowboys went shopping. For their defense they selected
outside linebacker, Jason Williams, who is expected to yield his full
potential in upcoming seasons, and for their offense they selected
offensive tackle, Robert Brewster, who 'understands the game very well'.
The Cowboys sent the irksome Terrell Owens packing, who was reportedly
at the root of the in-fighting last season, and also bid farewell to
defensive end Chris Canty. He was replaced with Igor Olshansky from San
Diego.
2009 Preview
Head coach Wade Phillips has been given one last shot to turn the
Dallas Cowboys into a well-oiled and cohesive team. If he fails expect
the team's offensive coordinator, Jason Garrett, to step up. This season
the Cowboys will need to rely more on WR Roy Williams to drive the
offense and initiate more of a running game with the help of solid
running backs, Marion Barber and Felix Jones. Tight end, Jason Witten,
will also have a big part to play this season, as the ideal player to
help open up the offense. The Cowboys should benefit greatly from the
signing of linebacker, Keith Brooking, who is expected to bolster the
team's defense.
2009 Prediction
After their poor 008 NFL season, it's time for the Dallas Cowboys to
step up this season and regain their championship form. While the team
has its detractors who feel that it has not done enough in the
off-season to turn things around, for its fans, WR Roy Williams will be
the Cowboys' saving grace as the player to restore both confidence and a
sense of pride in the team.
**Our Pick It will not surprise us if this team finishes last in the division. It will surprise us if they make the playoffs. They need a better gag reflex because these Cowboys are chokers.
