The Philadelphia Eagles
People were quick to start comparing the Eagles to the Miami Heat as the
Philadelphia team started accumulating their roster in the off season. Whether
you think this is a fair comparison or not, you have to admit that there will be
some exciting football coming out of Phillie this year. They needed to prop up
the defense and the addition of cornerback Nmandi Asomugha will go a long way
towards that. The Eagles now have three corners that will be the envy of most in
Asomugha, Asante Samuel and Dominique Cromartie-Rodgers.
They also acquired Jason Babin which is fortunate as Brandon Graham looks to
be out for the season with knee problems.
On the offense Michael Vick is backed up by Vince Young and they have an
arsenal of offensive weapons to choose from.
The Eagles will be under pressure with only the New England Patriots ahead of
them as super Bowl favorites. They need to put down a markers in this game.
The St Louis Rams
There's a lot of excitement in St Louis over the Rams and with good reason.
Sam Bradford hasn't looked like a rookie in the off season and now has one of
the best offensive strategists in the NFL in new coordinator Josh McDaniels to
help him steer the ship and work out a way of taking pressure off star running
back Steven Jackson. With an improved passing game to back him up, Jackson can
only get better. On defense the Rams have shows sign of improvement and
acquisitions like safety Quintin Mikell from the Eagles will help the cause.
There is much work to be done before this team will be a legit Super Bowl
contender but they are a good bet to make the playoffs in a less than
challenging NFC West.
Our Prediction: Eagles vs Rams
The Eagles start as a 4.5-point favorite on the road, where they were 4-4 ATS
last year. The Rams were 5-3 ATS at home last season and they were 7-4 ATS
as the underdog.
The Eagles will take some time to settle down but if Jackson doesn't make an
impact the rams offense could struggle. If their offensive line steps up the
Eagles should have no problems.
Our Pick: Eagles -4.5, Under
