November 10 - There are not many sports betting experts who give England a chance of retaining the Ashes in Australia, and the 06/07 tour began ignominously and quite ominously with a thumping defeat against a Prime Minister's XI in Canberra.

There is no doubt that England's one-day team is awful and their limitations in limited-over cricket were on full display here as a bunch of promising youthful third-stringers from Australia walloped the English by 166 runs.
The Aussie team batted first and led by opener Phil Jaques, who has played for the national team, and who bludgeoned 112 runs off a hapless English attack they romped to 347-5 in 50 overs. "The Full Monty" Panesar was a non-factor bowling only 3 overs and doing no damage.
There was some good news for England - captain Flintoff bowled his full 10 overs. There was, however, considerably more bad news - Mahmood, the fast bowler expected to replace Jones in the test lineup returned figures of 9 overs, 97 runs, 1 wicket. He cannot bowl at the highest level based on this outing.
England were torn apart when they batted, managing only 181 runs as Australia's latest fast-bowling sensation Shaun Tait tore through the top order at high speeds. Tait could be in the test team sooner rather than later on this effort alone.
Betting on the Ashes sees Australia heavily favoured to win the series at 2/7. Our top recommendation for betting on the Ashes is Sportingodds.com, where there are currently some great promotions on offer.
