September 1 - On the weekend while there were plenty of high octane English Premier League football games to look forward to, the match that grabbed the most news headlines was the one between the Red Devils (Manchester United) and the Gunners (Arsenal), although probably not for the reasons you think.

English football is renowned for winging and moaning players, fans and coaches, so Manchester's 2-1 drubbing of Arsenal gave the latter's coach, Arsene Wenger, just the excuse he needed to rant and rave after the match. The coach did not hide the scorn in his voice when he accused Man U of playing 'anti-football'.
Now I've heard of the anti-Christ, anti-matter and anti-ageing cream, but anti-football? This is something new. But it seems that what the Dutch-accented coach was referring to was the high number of fouls Manchester players purportedly perpetrated on Arsenal players during the game played at Old Trafford in Manchester.
The one in particular that grated on Wenger was when Man U's Darren Fletcher appeared to foul Andrey Arshavin, for which - horror of horrors - the referee did not award a penalty to Arsenal. And to add salt to the wound, when the Gunners' Manuel Almunia took down Wayne Rooney, the referee did award a penalty.
With his blood pressure rising as it is prone to do, Wenger got himself sent off in the sixth minute of the second half of injury time when he 'kicked a bottle'. It wasn't clear what or whom he was kicking the bottle at, but what is known is that his kinetic anger was prompted by a goal by Robin van Persie which was disallowed.
After the game, when he had calmed down a little, Wenger said, 'I have seen a player who plays on the pitch only to make fouls, and for me, this is a point that is more urgent than the issue of diving.' While he did not mention any players by name, Wenger was thought to have been referring to Man U's Darren Fletcher.
Of course it has to be said that during the said match, six Arsenal players went into the referee's little black book along with about the same number of Manchester United players. When all was said and done, Abou Diaby and Wayne Rooney scored for the Red Devils while Andrei Arshavin scored for the Gunners.
