English Premier League Title Just a Game Away - 05-03-10

May 3 - As expected, this weekend saw the two English Premier League front runners, Chelsea FC (83 points) and Manchester United FC (82 points), win their respective games, meaning the 2010 Premiership will come down to the final game of the season on Sunday.

On Sunday Chelsea retained their lead by dispatching Liverpool 2-0. And although many English Premier League fans expected Liverpool (currently 7th in the standings) to put up a bigger fight against the mighty Blues, it simply did not materialise, amongst conspiracy rumours.

For instance, after the game plenty of Liverpool supporters were convinced that their own Steven Gerrard initiated a back pass that directly resulted in Chelsea's first goal. However, neutral football fans recognized the result for exactly what it was - Chelsea was simply better.

Similarly, Manchester United proved too good for their opponents, Sunderland, when they faced them on Sunday and chalked up a 1-0 result. That said, the Red Devils should have racked up a bigger scoreline considering Sunderland are lying 11th in the League standings.

With the score 0-0 in the 92nd minute, Sunderland fans were forgiven for starting to celebrate what would have been their first win at Old Trafford (Manchester) in 23 attempts. But that changed in a flash in the 93rd minute after a Sunderland own goal gave Man U the win.

So just one point between them, this year's Premiership will come down to how well Chelsea FC and Manchester United FC fare in their final games on Sunday respectively. Chelsea will face Wigan at 11:00am ET and Manchester United will face Stoke City at  11:00am ET.

Leading UK land and online sportsbook, William Hill, has laid the following betting lines and odds:

Which team will win the Premiership?

Chelsea  1/12
Man Utd 6/1

Which team will finish fourth in the English Premier League? (with Arsenal already guaranteed to finish third)

Tottenham 4/5
Man City 10/11

Who will be the highest goal scorer this season?

Didier Drogba 5/6
Wayne Rooney EVS
Darren Bent 14/1
Carlos Tevez 33/1
