January 6 - F.A. Cup betting can be tricky during the early rounds of competition as there always seem to be one or two "giantkillers" who turn the odds upsidedown. The 3rd round was played on Saturday and Sunday and there were several big betting upsets.

The biggest shock of the round for punters was surely Everton's loss at home to Oldham. On Sunday Derby, Fulham, Liverpool, and Newcastle all failed to win against teams from lower divisions.
Liverpool were substantial betting favourites to take care of lower-division Luton even though they were playing away. Liverpool took the lead in the 74th minute and appeared on course for the expected win, before a disastrous own goal levelled the scores. The bookies were laughing as the game finished 1-1. Liverpool should still get into the next round as the replay will be at Anfield.
Newcastle need to win against Stoke in order to save their manager's job. They avoided defeat in an unimpressive draw, but for now Sam Allardyce has employment on Tyneside.
Other Premier League teams that were bounced out of the F.A. Cup included Blackburn and Bolton.
