The Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons have all the ingredients to be the best offensive team in the
NFL. During the pre-season, Alabama's Julio Jones looked worth the the expensive
trade cost. The addition of Jones opens up options for Roddy White, tight end
Tony Gonzalez and running back Michael Turner.
Matt Ryan will be feeling like he is in a video shoot out game with ducks
flying all over the screen and you just can't miss. However, he still needs to
make it work.
Defensively the Falcons have shored up through the acquisition of Ray
Edwards and with John Abraham in the line, Atlanta has a real pass rush to call
on. This is where Green Bay killed them in last year's playoffs.
The tough Bears defense will tell us a lot about the Falcons' Super Bowl
aspirations.
The Chicago Bears
Jay Cutler now has a running game to fall back on which is something the
Bears have struggled with. Their somewhat suspect offensive line caused Cutler
to get sacked more than he would have liked last season so being able to offload
quickly should save his ribs. Cutler still has limited options to pass to with
Roy Williams as their lead receiver. Not very exciting to be frank.
It will again be their solid defense that will carry the Bears. Tackle
Anthony Adams could miss this first game with an ankle injury and linebacker
Lance Briggs has contract issues. Adding Roy Williams to their roster is one of
the more perplexing recruitment decision of late.
More questions than answers for the Bears I'm afraid.
Our Prediction: Falcons vs Bears
Most bookies have the Falcons as a 3-point favorite on the road. Last season
they were 6-2 ATS, and were 10-4 ATS as a favorite. The Bears were 4-4 ATS at
home, but 7-2 ATS as an underdog. The Bears are 5-1 SU and 4-1 ATS in previous
meetings between these two in Chicago. Three games were Under.
We are Bears skeptics unless they can pull off one of the best running
seasons in history. The Falcons’ offense looks the goods and this is where your wagers
should go.
Our Pick: Falcons -3, Under
