January 16 - The World Series of Poker has for the first time in its history appointed a commissioner, giving the organization clear leadership. Ever since Harrah's bought Binion's, and with it Poker's grandest event, there hasn't been a
clearly designated leader of the event...
This has no changed. On January 12th Harrah's appointed Jeffrey Pollack, who
server as VP in charge of sports and entertainment marketing for the group.
Pollack has been running the event since 2005, but has not had the chance to
stamp his mark on it. Pollack now has the opportunity to really grow the sport.
"The WSOP is unique and needs dedicated attention and management," said Ginny
Shanks, VP of brand management at Harrah's. "Jeffrey will now be further empower
to develop our player community, tournament organizers, staff, partners,
sponsors, licensees, and management team into an efficient and harmonious team."
Pollack should now be able to make changes to the tournament. it is already
clear that he listens to players after he re-introduced a H.O.R.S.E. event to
the World Series.
The H.O.R.S.E. will be a mixed game competition, with a $50,000 buy-in, and
will be played over three days starting on July 25th. This should bring some of
the finest poker players in the world together.
