March 5 - Harrahs has released the much anticipated 2007 World Series of
Poker rules. As expected, online qualifiers are not allowed but the WSOP won't
stop anyone who turns up with $10,000 cash in hand...
The new rules include very detailed logo restrictions. In a rather amusing
statement Harrah's maintained that they did not allow third-party registrations from
online poker rooms that allow U.S. real-money play for the last two years. Even
though last year's rules made no reference to online poker rooms, everyone knows
they handled registrations for many players.
The new rules clearly ban third-party registrations from online
poker rooms that accepts US players. The only third parties that can register
players are so-called "land-based
entities officially licensed to conduct satellite tournaments."
Enforcing these new rules will not be all that easy, and the WSOP seems to
acknowledge based on the statement from their commissioner that they will not
turn away people who turn up with the money.
Players will be allowed to wear clothing with .net site advertisements as
long as the ".net" part is the same size as the actual logo.
Logos also have to be smaller than
12 square inches (so its bye-bye to those oversized Full Tilt football jerseys
and the
Pokerstars jackets we saw in 2006.).
