2010 Season
After the Houston Texans finished above .500 for the first time in
the 2009/10 season, there was much hope amongst fans of the AFC
South
division franchise that they would improve even more in the
2010/11 season. But alas it was not to be, as the Titans finished
the season third in the AFC South division, with a lackluster PCT
of .315, 6-10 SU and 6-10 ATS.
Off Season
During the 2010/11 NFL season, there were aspects of the Houston
Texans that were commendable (such as their offense in general)
and others that were not (such as their defense in general). So it
is probably not surprising then that in the off-season the Houston
Texans used the 2011 NFL Draft to bolster their defense some, and
the likes of J.J.Watt (DE), Brooks Reed (OLB) and Brandon Harris
(CB) might just help the Texans get to the next level.
2011 Preview
After a disappointing season in 2010, the Houston Texans know
what they have to do this season, which is to work their derricks
off to get their defensive lineup on a similar level to their
offensive lineup. Offensively, the bright lights in the Texans
last season undoubtedly included QB Matt Schaub, who threw a
whopping 4,369 yards, breaking a ton of records in the process,
and second year rookie RB Arian, who chalked up a none-too-shabby
1,616 yards and aided with 18 TDs. If these two players can
continue where they left off last season, and work around the
departure of FB Vonta Leach, offensively the Texans could continue
to be in good shape. The big question is whether head coach Gary
Kubiak and his defensive co-ordinator Wade Phillips can mold
Houston's defense into a cohesive and more importantly workable
unit? For our NFL betting buck, we believe they can, so watch this
team this season.
2011 Prediction
Great things, or should that read greater things, were
expected from the Houston Texans last season, but they never came
to fruition. A lack of a decent defensive scuppered the team's
chances of being a real threat. But by all reports, the Texans
worked hard to shore up their leaky defense in the off-season,
which if true and the team's offense remains as good as it was
last season, could well result in a "new improved" and thus
exciting Houston Texans this season.
**Our Pick
Often in sport it is necessary to give a team the benefit of the
doubt, even sometimes against one's better judgement. In the case
of the Houston Texans, while a case could be made that they might
be a "damp squib" as they were last season, another case could be
made that with an improved defense (let's face it, anything will
be an improvement on last season) the Titans could finish the
season second or even top of the AFC South
division. So back these boys.
