Roulette is a game played with a spinning wheel surrounded by numbers from
one to thirty-six, in alternating colors of red and black, into which a ball is
dropped. Players play against the house, and place bets on a betting board,
trying to predict which number or colour the ball will come to rest on when the
wheel stops spinning.
There is a variation in the amount of numbers available to bet on, depending
on which version of roulette you are playing. Traditional roulette, in the form
of French roulette or European roulette, have thirty-seven numbers, from zero to
thirty-six. American roulette has thirty-eight numbers, as this version has a
zero as well as a double zero. This is a seemingly small difference, but it
changes the odds somewhat, as there is an extra number to take into account when
calculating the odds and deciding what numbers to place your bets on.
Roulette is one of the most popular casino games available, and is offered at
any casino, whether land-based or online. There is not limit to the number of
bets that can be placed, so it is even possible to cover the board with bets, in
order to maximise one?s chances of winning ? although this has to be carefully
worked out, because the most likely outcome of this betting strategy is that you
will simply break even after an extended period of play. This is obviously not
conducive to making money, but on the other hand, if you?re simply playing for
the fun of it, it is certainly a way of making sure you can play for as long as
you like.
Bets may be made until the moment the croupier drops the ball into the
spinning wheel, at which point he will call "no more bets". You are not allowed
to bet after this point, nor are you allowed to change any bets you have already
made.
