The announcement has drawn a lot of criticism from problem gambling circles.
Problem gambling charity Gamcare - who provide counseling for problem
gamblers raised the concern that the games will attract people who are sitting
on long haul flights who would not normally gamble online. The claim that
liberal UK laws as far as gambling is concerned is already leading to an
increase in problem gambling (although there is no conclusive proof of this).
The technology behind the airlines casinos comes courtesy of London listed
online gambling group,
888.com.
The group already has a UK turnover of £1.2billion a year.
The casino will be integrated with the in-flight entertainment system, and
users will access the 888.com website. Deposits can be made by credit card.
Airlines who have signed up for the service include British Airways,
Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific.
A 888.com spokes person said: "This will attract more players in more places
every day."
Gamcare have suggested to 888 to put a limit on the amount of money and time
people will be able to spend online.
