2010 Season
Even though the Jacksonville Jaguars finished the 2010/11 NFL
season on 8-8, just one win more than their previous season, they
jumped from last place in the AFC South division to second place
behind the Indianapolis Colts. However, the team (again) failed to
shine, which is why it's surprising that head coach Jack Del Rio
has been given yet another shot at redemption.
2011 Off Season
The Jacksonville Jaguars have pretty much always had poor
record in the draft department, often failing to sign the right
man for the job, and there are many NFL betting fans who feel this
may also be the case this season. Sure, the Jaguars may have
snagged talented QB Blaine Gabbert in the 2011 Draft, but whether
he's got the stones to replace the team's struggling QB David
Garrard is the question. But how the team's QB situation plays out
this year may pale in comparison to its poor defensive lineup,
which Del Rio largely failed to address in the off season. So
without any decent defensive draft choices to speak of this
season, the pressure will once again be on RB Maurice Jones-Drew.
2011 Preview
Despite a few minor changes made to the Jacksonville Jaguars in
the off season, the team more or less seems to be the same as it
was last season, which could be problematic. Offensively, QB David
Garrard has still not managed to find his A-game, and if - as many
NFL betting fans suspect he will - he's replaced sooner than later
by talented Draft pick Blaine Gabbert, the question then becomes
whether Gabbert can handle the pressure and deliver from the
get-go. In terms of the Jaguars' defensive unit, last season it
ranked 28 overall, with just 371.8 yards per game, and with no big
changes this season, coach Del Rio will have to rely on the team's
offensive unit more than he probably should.
2011 Prediction
Looking at the upcoming schedule of the Jacksonville Jaguars, the
team has some very tough games to look forward to, particularly
from Week 6, where they'll have to face the likes of the
Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Ravens, the Houston Texans, the
Indianapolis Colts and the list goes on. For the Jags to have any
real shot of rating against teams this good, they'll have to win
games right from the get-go, and rely on their winning momentum
going forward.
**Our Pick
It's hard to picture the Jacksonville Jaguars emerging from the
slump that has gripped them in recent years, and even if this is
truly head coach Jack Del Rio's last season to turn the team's
fortunes around, what can he try that he didn't try last season?
We expect the Jaguars to finish on 6-10 and third in the AFC South
division.
