Ladbrokes and 888
have been in discussions since October last year.
Terms of a deal could not be agreed after what was reported to be "intense
negotiations".
A major area of contention was the concern of non-executive directors that
Ladbrokes could become the victim of legal ramifications related to the US
online gambling ban, and that indemnity against 888.com's previous US operations
was impossible.
Ladbrokes share price went up following speculation of a possible private
equity deal.
