February 22 - Leading online gambling group Ladbrokes.com indicated
this week that it has not ended discussions with online casino group, 888.com
with regard to a takeover, but that discussions were complicated by the current
legal climate in the USA...

Rumors about the takeover started in November 2006, but went quiet soon
thereafter. The Ladbrokes Group is in a very strong financial position following
the same of its hotel division and a very profitable world cup for the sports
betting business.
Pre-tax profit was up to a hefty £669.8 million for the year ending 31 December 2006
(£394.0 million for the previous year). Gross win from wagers was up by 9.9 percent to £1 billion.
The group commented that it had successfully established Ladbrokes as a
leading standalone betting and gaming company.
