February 28 - Oscars will be handed out in a glittering Academy Awards ceremony this coming Sunday, March 5, and online sportsbooks have updated the latest Oscar odds if you want to bet on who will scoop the 2006 Academy Awards!
Bodog.com has the following Best Actor odds:
Philip Seymour Hoffman is a huge favorite to win the Academy Award for his eponymous role in Capote and is 1/9 in the Oscar betting. Race over, or so it would seem.
Ther other leading contenders are Heath Ledger, easy to bet at 5/1, and Joaquin Phoenix for playing Johnny Cash in Walk The Line (14/5 in the betting)
Bodog.com reckons that the Academy Award for Best Actress is also an open and shut case, and have posted Reese Witherspoon as heavy chalk to caputre the Oscar. She's 1/6 in the betting, and her only competition in the betting at least is Felicity Huffman who is 2/1 to win for her Indie turn in TransAmerica, which is notable for the fact that hardly anyone has seen it.
The two main awards on the night are usually Best Director and Best Picture, and Brokeback Mountain looks to have both those awards covered in terms of betting lines. The film about gay cowboy love has clearly touched a chord with actors and film people (go figure) although they'll probably get no votes from Scientologists like Tom Cruise and John Travolta, who have put those days behind them, so to speak.
Brokeback Mountain is 1/10 to win the best picture award, and the only challenge in the betting comes from Crash. Ang Lee is a shoo-in to win best director.
