February 14 - The current state of the law in Japan outlaws most forms of
land based gambling and all forms of online gambling.
Japan is one of few first world countries with no land casinos. All forms of
gambling is controlled by the state which is limited to horse racing and the
lottery.
Now lawmakers are reported to realize that there is a tax revenue opportunity
going to waste.

Land based casino operators have long had an interest in Japan. The
opportunity can not be underestimated. Japan has the biggest GDP in Asia and
with a population of 128 million is offers a huge opportunity to them and
likewise to online gambling operators.
According to news sources, the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party has
commenced talks with some large land based as well as online gambling operators.
Macau and Singapore have successfully boosted tax revenues through legalized
online and land based gambling. Japan is experiencing an ongoing recession and a
declining tourist industry so there is little surprise that they are looking to
boost their tax coffers.
The legal process is slow but it seems as if there is a favorable mood
towards new forms of legalized gambling in Japan. T
