September 27 - Just as though it looked like defending English Premier League Champions and current leaders Chelsea could do no wrong, Manchester City took on the mighty Blues on Saturday, and beat them 1-0.
The unexpected victory by Manchester City at City of Manchester Stadium may have ended Chelsea's unbeaten streak, which lasted five games, but with 15 points are still firmly atop the English Premier League standings.
From the start of the match, Manchester City made it clear that they would not let Chelsea walk all over them and so the stage was set for a 90 minute struggle between the reigning champs and a club out to prove something.
Both teams attacked and protected sufficiently well in the first half to go into half time tied at 0-0. However, in the second half it was Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez who finally ended the deadlock with a perfect goal.
The stadium erupted with elated Man City fans as Chelsea went 1-0 down, with the pressure now on the visitors. And as full time neared, and the Blues no closer to equalising, Chelsea fans could be seen heads in hands.
Off the field, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini was cautious in his praise for his winning side. 'If Chelsea find space they score, but if they do not have it, it is too hard for them. Our players defended well,' he said.
Meanwhile, a clearly unhappy Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti had this to say, 'We didn't play well and suffered in midfield. We were not able to play our football. I'm disappointed. But you can't judge our team on one defeat.'
It was not lost on Chelsea fans how yet again Didier Drogba failed to deliver the same form that brought him so much fame. That said, many still criticized Ancelotti for his decision to take Drogba off during the second half.
