January 17 - Thanks to Manchester City's 4-3 victory over Wolverhampton on Saturday, they now share the lead in the English Premier League standings with Manchester United on 45 points each, Arsenal two points behind.
But from the start of City's showdown with the Wolves at Eastlands Stadium, it was the visitors who shined, drawing first blood thanks to talented midfielder Nenad Milijaš, who scored a cracking match opener in just the 12th minute.
Clearly rattled at letting in a goal from a club that is lying second from the bottom of the league, Manchester City tried in vain to shake itself awake, but continued to struggle to fend off a determined Wolves, who were hungry for a win.
However, Manchester City eventually equalised in the 40th minute courtesy of defender Kolo Touré, so the teams went into half time tied 1-1, where City, no doubt, received a very 'vocal' pep talk from manager, Roberto Mancini.
He must have been confused as to why his side was struggling to match a team that will likely face relegation at the end of the season. But the pep talk must have worked, because City made it 2-1 just three minutes into the second half.
That goal was scored by forward Carlos Tévez, who is proving to be a big playmaker for City, and on the day easily outshone new teammate Edin Dzeko, who was recently acquired by the Citizens for a whopping £27 million.
City's run of good fortune continued 17 minutes later, when midfielder Yaya Touré made it 3-1. But just when it looked like City had succeeded in crushing the Wolves' spirit, the visitors made it 3-2 off superb penalty from Kevin Doyle.
With the clock winding down and City fans starting to chew on their nails, Tévez scored his second on the day in the 65th minute to make it 4-2. But still the Wolves refused to rollover and die, as a late goal in the 85th minute showed.
That score was courtesy of Wolves center back, Ronald Zubar, and while it took the visitors to within a single point of equalising, it was the final goal of the match, giving Manchester City the 4-3 victory and step up into joint first place.
